You are not alone.

No one deserves to be a victim of sexual violence, yet many people experience sexual abuse or assault in their lifetimes. Sometimes, that abuse is enabled and perpetuated by the very entities charged with supporting the victim.

        Frequently Asked Questions

        • Will I have to appear in court?

Very few cases go to trial these days. We cannot say for certain that you will not have to appear in court, but the likelihood is not high.
        • Will I have to travel for my deposition?

Usually, your deposition is taken in a location near your home. In most cases, no out-of-state or overnight travel is required. There may be rare situations where some travel is necessary, but those do not occur very often.

        • Will I have to give testimony?

In most cases, as the plaintiff, you will be asked to answer questions under oath during a deposition. A deposition is an out-of-court meeting in a private office. You will be asked questions by the defendant’s attorney. The questions and your answers will be recorded and transcribed into a written transcript by a court reporter. Typically, a deposition usually takes no more than a few hours. In addition, you will have to spend some time with us preparing for your deposition.

        • How much time will I have to spend on my case?

These cases require you to collaborate with legal representatives. This should only take a few hours of your time as we begin building your case. Initially, we will conduct two phone interviews with you.

The first is to gather general information about your case. The second will be to gather information that is important to and supports your case. We may also ask you to send us certain documents and records that you have concerning your case.

        • Who decides if my case should go to trial?

The decision to try a particular case is made jointly by the client and his or her legal team. There are many factors that must be considered when deciding to go to trial.

          These factors often include:

          • The merits of the case
          • The weaknesses in the case
          • The out-of-pocket costs that will be required to try the case
          • The likelihood of success

We will help you determine the best course of action based on your specific case.

        • What costs will I have to pay?

You are not required to pay any upfront costs or fees during the legal process. If we are not successful in obtaining compensation for you, you will not be responsible for the legal costs we incur. If we do obtain compensation for you, any legal fees we have paid on your behalf during the litigation process will be deducted from your portion of the compensation.
